Requirements
- Certification: Must hold a current COTA certification and license to practice as issued by the state regulatory board.
- Education: Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
- Work Authorization: Eligible to work in Minnesota.
- Compliance: Must meet all health and safety requirements, including CPR certification
Your Experience
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical, rehabilitation, or outpatient setting.
- Familiarity with providing therapeutic interventions under the guidance of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations, from pediatrics to geriatrics (preferred experience in both is a plus).
- Experience safely managing equipment such as wheelchairs, mobility aids, and splinting materials
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of occupational therapy principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to implement treatment plans designed by Occupational Therapists to address patient needs and goals.
- Proficient in observing, documenting, and reporting patient progress to therapists or healthcare providers.
- Competence in conducting assessments and activities to help patients improve motor skills, coordination, strength, and endurance.
- Exceptional communication skills to educate patients and their families on therapeutic practices and lifestyle modifications.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with therapists, aides, and healthcare staff.
- Time management and multitasking skills to handle caseloads efficiently.
Good to Have
- Advanced knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive technologies, and how to properly train patients in their usage.
- Understanding of electronic medical record (EMR) systems for accurate and efficient documentation.
- Training or certification in specialized programs such as lymphedema therapy, sensory integration, or neuro-rehabilitation techniques.
- Familiarity with health insurance regulations and billing codes related to occupational therapy.
- Fluency in a second language to better assist bilingual patients.
