Requirements

 

  • Certification: Must hold a current COTA certification and license to practice as issued by the state regulatory board.
  • Education: Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
  • Work Authorization: Eligible to work in Minnesota.
  • Compliance: Must meet all health and safety requirements, including CPR certification

Your Experience

 

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical, rehabilitation, or outpatient setting.
  • Familiarity with providing therapeutic interventions under the guidance of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations, from pediatrics to geriatrics (preferred experience in both is a plus).
  • Experience safely managing equipment such as wheelchairs, mobility aids, and splinting materials

Required Skills

 

  • Strong knowledge of occupational therapy principles, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to implement treatment plans designed by Occupational Therapists to address patient needs and goals.
  • Proficient in observing, documenting, and reporting patient progress to therapists or healthcare providers.
  • Competence in conducting assessments and activities to help patients improve motor skills, coordination, strength, and endurance.
  • Exceptional communication skills to educate patients and their families on therapeutic practices and lifestyle modifications.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with therapists, aides, and healthcare staff.
  • Time management and multitasking skills to handle caseloads efficiently.

Good to Have

 

  • Advanced knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive technologies, and how to properly train patients in their usage.
  • Understanding of electronic medical record (EMR) systems for accurate and efficient documentation.
  • Training or certification in specialized programs such as lymphedema therapy, sensory integration, or neuro-rehabilitation techniques.
  • Familiarity with health insurance regulations and billing codes related to occupational therapy.
  • Fluency in a second language to better assist bilingual patients.
